Greg is the former lead singer for Stranger, who became extremely popular in the Tampa Bay Area way back in the 80’s. The club scene was ripe with raw talent back then, just waiting to break through to the national scene… Stranger’s brand of homegrown southern rock-n-roll was a big hit. The band enjoyed a great following, playing to packed houses night after night… The Stranger band produced 6 albums (yes they were real vinyl), over the 15 years that Greg spent as front man for the band… Greg left Stranger and released an album with Damn the Torpedoes (DTT) in the mid 90’s, and has now formed The Greg Billings Band who has just released their first album, (OK CD) entitled “Do Overs”.
This CD was put together so people could have some Greg Billings Band style jams to take home. Greg explained, “A lot of our friends never got to see Stranger or Damn The Torpedoes live. When several people bought the Stranger and DTT recordings, their response was: "I want a recording of you guys doing these songs”. So, the "Do Overs" project began. These are some of my favorite songs I have recorded over the years- re-recorded- with a little different feel, groove, mojo, lyrics, etc. With a few other tunes thrown in the mix. I am very fortunate to have great players and great friends in this band. I think you will enjoy-as this project was done with a lot of heart, soul, and whiskey, and with a little help from my friends. Come on in and make yourself at home”!!! He added, “This band was put together for one reason- lets have some fun and kick some ass! While we have fun we also pride ourselves in our live shows. I have never had as much fun making music as I am having now. We have made a lot of friends over the years and hope to make many more”…
The band is made up of a plethora of talent including Tom "King" Cardenas – Bass who is originally from Austin, Texas. Tom was one of the original Stranger band founders going back to "Lynxx" and "Romeo" (bands former names). George "Guitar" Harris – Guitar Originally from another world, George has been in the Tampa Bay Area music scene for over 20 years (Maggie’s Council and Halcyon to name a few). Leroy "Have drums will travel" Myers - Drums ”Leroy and I go way back - He was in a band called Blind Man's Bluff in the 80's and later joined the Bobby Friss band. Stranger and BFB played many shows together and so the story goes!! We spent 6 years together in Damn The Torpedoes. Leroy is a great asset to the GBB as he brings another vocal and guitar to the line up”, Greg stated.
Rob "I do not joke about money" Stoney – Keyboards Rob is the newest member of the GBB. His past projects include "Webbed Feet" and "Walk the Chalk". Most recent project was 6 years with the Warren Brothers where (they) had several of his songs recorded on their releases. Rob brings a wide variety of talent to the GBB including harmonica, guitar, vocals, and Jerry Lee Lewis show.
